Carignane holds the distinction of being one of the most widely planted red grape in France. It is also grown abundantly in Italy, Spain, Algeria and Israel and was once the most planted varietal in the new world. It has traditionally been used as a blending grape with good tonnage yields, excellent acid and big tannins. Cline Cellars is one of a few wineries to produce the wine as a varietal. Dark ruby in color, our Ancient Vines Carignane has a firm structure and shows aromas of cedar, clove and nutmeg and flavors of plum and dark berries. It’s a perfect match for grilled meats, pasta dishes, even pizza with goat cheese.

Our Ancient Vines Mourvèdre, grown in the warm, sandy soils of Oakley California, produces a wine that has a distinct chocolate character. The tannins are soft and the wine has good weight in the mouth. Flavors and aromas of cherry and mint help make this delicious wine an unusual delight.

The 2004 Ancient Vines Zinfandel shows wonderful dusty raspberry, blackberry, white pepper and spice, with coffee and chocolate characters. Ripe fruit and soft tannin make this vintage full of mouth-coating richness. The aging in new and used wood has lent this wine a subtle vanilla quality that nicely complements the explosive fruit notes. Enjoy this wine presently for its effusive black fruit, or cellar for 5 to 7 years.

The Bridgehead Zinfandel is consistently the most refined and elegant of the several Zins that we produce. Our 2003 Bridgehead Zinfandel has notes of spice and black pepper combined with bright blackberry. The wine is firm and deep with notes of chocolate and toasty vanilla. Benefiting from a fine-grained structure of balanced acids and tannins, the wine will age beautifully for well over the next 5 to 7 years. Its claret-like style and intriguingly complex earthy-berry character make this one of California's most distinct and our most treasured Zinfandels.

Syrah is a fantastic grape to work with in the cellar. The deep purple color explodes and fascinates each time it is poured into a glass. Its origins stem from the Rhône Valley. Syrah is most popular in Australia (known as Shiraz) and is collecting a large following here in the United States. The 2002 California Syrah is becoming a benchmark wine for the adventurous. The cracked black pepper aromas complement the black cherry jamminess of this vintage. Try this Syrah with all things grilled....salute!

As always the California Zinfandel is a challenging and rewarding wine to produce. Severe selection criteria and master blending show in the final product, which showcases a wide array of dark berry fruit including black cherry and raspberry. Additionally, spice notes and a lasting finish of vanilla from oak aging and firm, supple tannins add complexity to this wine. This wine is ready to drink now and will continue to develop complexity over the next three to four years.

We initially created this blend as an auction lot for the Hospice du Rhone held in Paso Robles each year. It was a great success so we decided to make more than just one barrel and offer it to our customers. It is a Rhone varietal blend referred to as a G.S.M. for Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. This wine has big cherry,raspberry and chocolate notes along with cracked black pepper and plums. This is a very flavorful, big-bodied wine that will pair well with a grilled steak.

Our Carneros Barbera is a crisp and vibrant wine with lively raspberry and cherry character along with complex tobacco notes. A small amount of Syrah from our Sonoma Coast vineyard adds to the bright fruit character of this wine.

Light and fruity. Slap me silly - this Nebbiolo is fresh and sassy!

This delightful wine has huge notes of Asian pear. The slight amount of natural grape sugar rounds out the acidity and provides a smooth finish. Our Jacuzzi Pinot Grigio is a great companion to Greek food or grilled salmon.

Our Jacuzzi Sangiovese is dark in color with spicy aromas and notes of raspberries. The wine is medium-bodied and well balanced with bright acidity and a smooth tannin structure. It is drinkable now but should age well for the next three to five years.

It takes a special year to make this special late harvest wine. The 2003 growing season provided the perfect collaboration of weather, crop size and quality. In addition to being luxuriously sweet this wine displays characteristics of berries, chocolate and coffee with the earthiness that is true to the variety and Oakley terroir. It will age for decades and it is a wonderful accompaniment to rich desserts.

The Live Oak Zin is known for its dimension of ripeness and individuality. A classic example of the big-boned Zinfandels for which Cline Cellars has become known, the 2003 Live Oak Zin displays notes of blackberries, raspberries and licorice. The wine has a firm and balanced structure of acid and fine grained tannins. It’s luscious.

I am truly amazed at the affinity that Syrah has shown for the soils and microclimate of our Los Carneros ranch. Syrah is the grape that demonstrates its greatest potential for grandeur in the Northern Rhone appellations of Côte-Rotie and Hermitage. Syrah exhibits many of the same brilliant fruit and smoky/tarry characteristics, here, in Carneros. The steep northerly slope of our hillside vineyard seems to help bring forward the fresh cracked pepper and berry notes that are typical of Syrah from a cooler climate. The high quality we count on each year does not disappoint, so beginning with this vintage, we have decided to showcase this wine with a new single vineyard designation. In the winery, careful management, hygiene and modern winemaking techniques contribute to the explosive fruit nature of this wine without, I feel, the funky animal aromas that mar Old World examples of the grape. Delicious now, the ripe, medium-weight tannins of our 2002 Syrah will allow this wine to age beautifully for 5 to 7 years.

This blend of Marsanne and Roussanne has a zesty orange character mixed with lively stone fruit flavors. We did not expose the wine to oak aging allowing the fruit to maintain is freshness. There are very few acres of Marsanne in this country so it is a rare treat to enjoy a bottle of this varietal. It pairs well with high-acid foods and is best served chilled.

Complex and easy-drinking this wine exhibits the flavors of blackberries and black pepper. The wine has good body and moderate tannin and provides a tremendous value for the red wine drinker. Enjoy the 2002 Oakley Five Reds with pizza, spaghetti and meatballs or a juicy cheeseburger.

First and foremost, when selecting grapes and wines for the OAKLEY fourWHITES program, we are particularly conscious of good acid balance, intensity of fruit and what each, single varietal will offer to the blend as a whole. The 2003 blend offers an added degree of complexity with pear and green apple notes. We intend this wine to be a uniquely Cline interpretation of an everyday table white - adventurous, affordable and delicious. This Vin Gris is a Mourvèdre Rosé. Light bodied, crisp and refreshing, this beauty is refreshing on its own and is an excellent accompaniment to spicy Thai dishes or barbequed ribs. Serve chilled.

Aromas of ripe pear, pineapple and apple join the wonderful tastes of cantaloupe and creamy lemon. Enjoy this wine with light fare such as foie gras, quiche & butter lettuce salad, herb-crusted halibut and lobster with tarragon butter.

This vineyard has always shown intense concentration of flavors due, in part, to the miniscule yields that we receive. Tobacco, plum, chocolate and eucalyptus-mint dominate this wine. With plenty of flesh and a firm balanced structure of acid and fine-grained tannins, our Cline Cellars 2003 Small Berry Mourvèdre is delicious now and will age beautifully for the next five to seven years

The 2001 Sonoma County Syrah has great color, rich blueberry and black pepper character combined with a cedary-smooth finish. Once thought to be a varietal that only thrives in warmer climates, Sonoma County has proven that Syrah has a permanent home here. The varied terroir of our Lazy ‘C’ and Carneros vineyard brings forward the cracked pepper and berry notes that are typical of Syrah from a cooler climate. This wine pairs well with seafood pasta dishes, tri-tip steak smothered in wild chanterelles, and chicken satay. This wine is very approachable now but will also age beautifully for 5 to 7 years.

The 2002 Sonoma Dry Creek Zinfandel shows concentrated dark berry, firm tannin structure and great acid. Prolonged aging in new and used wood has lent this wine a subtle vanilla quality that nicely complements the explosive fruit notes. Enjoy this wine presently for its effusive black fruit, or cellar for 5 to 7 years. An excellent accompaniment to grilled Tri-tip or Porcini Risotto.

No oak aging or malolactic fermentation contributed to the bright, fresh character of red truck white. This wine is packed with flavors of melon, apricot and herbs. You can drink red truck white anywhere, anytime (its refreshing when served chilled and pairs especially well with seafood and chicken). And for you die-hard Cline fans, take it for a spin and floor it baby, metaphorically speaking of course!
