Winery at La Grange
|

Very rich in history and soon to be very rich in wine, the new Winery at La Grange will open this August 2006 as Prince William County's only established winery. The red brick three and a half story La Grange manor house built in the 1790's has survived numerous owners and finally has come to rest with an unique group of investors brought together by Chris Pearmund. While the 5,500 newly planted Cabernet Sauvignon vines grow silently, preparations continue in the manor house refurbishment and completion of the new Winery building. The Winery at La Grange's initial 2,500 cases of wine include: Vidal Blanc, Viognier, Chardonnay, Meritage, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, a Brut Reserve sparkling, and a Petite Verdot Port.

Directions
From Washington, DC, Fairfax, Manassas and areas East: Take I-66 West towards Front Royal, Exit 40 at the Haymarket (Hwy 15), Left at the light and proceed to second light (Sheetz on Left) at Hwy 55. Right on the Hwy 55 for about 1 mile and turn Right onto Antioch Road over I-66. The winery will be about 3 miles North on Antioch Road, entrance on the Left. From Warrenton and areas South: Take Hwy 29 North towards Gainesville, Left on Hwy 15 towards Haymarket, Left at the light (Sheetz on Right) on to Hwy 55 for about 1 mile. Turn Right onto Antioch Road over I-66. The winery will be about 3 miles North on Antioch Road, entrance on the Left. From Leesburg and areas North: Take Hwy 15 South towards Haymarket, Right on to Hwy 601 for about 2 miles. Turn Left onto Antioch Road for about 1/4 mile. The winery will be South on Antioch Road, entrance on the Right. From Front Royal and areas West: Take I-66 East towards Washington, DC, Exit 40 at the Haymarket (Hwy 15), Right at the light and proceed to light at Hwy 55 (Sheetz on Left). Right on the Hwy 55 for about 1 mile and turn Right onto Antioch Road over I-66. The winery will be about 3 miles North on Antioch Road, entrance on the Left.

Brut Reserve - Sparkling Wine

Cabernet Franc
Ahhh - the sweetheart grape of Virginia Cabernet Franc is perfectly suited for the climate and terrain of our state and is sure to become the classic Virginia grape. We've produced a medium bodied wine with classic varietal characters of her bareouruss, black peppery and full of spicy flavors.

Claret
A field blend of traditional lberain varietals: tourgia national, graticiano and tannat this dusty, medium bodied wine is dry with a hint of underbrush. Well suited for grilled foods and lighter meats.

Fletcher's Chardonnay
An award winning favorite! French oak ferment ion fermented and non malolactic fermentation, this white burgundean style wine has vanillin and green apple flavors with a hint of sea breeze. Silver Medal, 2006 2nd Annual Atlantic Seaboard Competition

Melange
A finely crafted blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Cabernet Franc, and 8% Merlot that is very Bordeaux like.

Meritage
Red wine blend of the 5 classic Bordeaux grapes. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petite Verdot. 13 months in a blend of French and American oak barrels. Merlot
A rich, full, well rounded win that is rustic and dense with a smokey tobacco sweetness and undertones of dried fruits and earthen essences like barnyard.

Norton
An austere, lightweight picnic wine teases your palate with a sweet-tart texture, cotton candy warmth and hints of tangy currants.

Pinot Grigio
Hints of aromatic citrus and fresh cut grass create a fruit forward and assertive table wine with a full palate and clean finish making it a softer and more flavorful Pinot Grigio than any you may have tried.

Snort
This late-picked Petit Verdot has been fermented than fortified with high octane neutral grape spirits to create an astonishing port-style wine. This is an excellent cigar wine and also great with dark chocolate, walnuts, strong cheeses or good friends.

Tannat
This Madiran styled, full bodied red is well balanced with lush black fruits, a strong tannic structure and a long spicy finish.

Vidal Blanc
An off-dry wine with bright citrus flavors. It has tangerine and gooseberry notes with a crisp, clean finish. Excellent with Thai cuisine and other spicy styled foods.

Viognier
This aromatic Condrieu style wine is heavily textured and has notes of grapefruit and lemon zest alongside spice and white pepper. It is steel fermented and aged for 6 months in oak. Norton Wine Review: Nicely restored home houses The Winery at La Grange. As was its relatively new setting, so were the wines. A few palatable whites, but we didn't understand why their Norton wine was awarded a bronze medal at St. Louis' 2007 National Norton Festival. Went online to look at the awards distributed at this festival and found practically everyone who participated seemingly got a bronze medal if not in the running for the silver and gold awards. We went to the 2008 Norton Wine Festival and understandably La Grange's Norton was not to be found. Virginia has several nice Norton wine examples, but The Winery at La Grange's wine was not one of them.
