Clay Station Cabernet/ Petite Sirah
This is a rich and full-bodied red wine that blends Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) with Petite Sirah (30%). The winemaker kept each component separate during fermentation. Both were handled gently to minimize bitterness and fermented warm to maximize color and flavor extraction. The Cabernet component was aged one year in new and used American and French oak. The Petite Sirah was cellared in stainless steel to maintain its bright, fresh fruit character. The Clay Station 2001 Cabernet/Petite Sirah is a deep, rich and elegant red wine with complex layers of plum, eucalyptus, blueberry and vanilla. The wine shows a bright black cherry and cassis fruit flavor with a remarkably silky mouthfeel and a long lingering finish.
|
Clay Station Malbec
The ripe, lush black grape variety, Malbec, was originally made famous in Bordeaux as a blending component of Cabernet along with Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. In the U.S., it is better known on its own. In Argentina, the wine is universally enjoyed because it pairs so well with grilled beef. The grapes for this wine were harvested at their optimum ripeness and fermented in small batches at warmer temperatures to extract maximum color and flavor. The fruit was handled very gently throughout the winemaking process to avoid bitterness and help deliver that uniquely round, smooth and soft Malbec that is characteristic of Clay Station. This Malbec is a full-bodied, deep reddish purple wine with aromas of earth and blueberry. The blackberry, blueberry, cola and chocolate flavors burst onto the palate and are framed by soft tannins and a hint of vanilla. The wine has both complexity and elegance with a long, lingering and velvety finish.
|
Clay Station Old Vine Zinfandel
The wine has a concentrated nose of spice, black cherry and plum with a hint of raspberry jam. Aged in American and Hungarian oak, it is rich and full in the mouth with cherry, blackberry, spice and a hint of vanilla culminating in a lingering finish. Soft, chewy tannins add to the luscious texture of this delightful wine. Try it with spicy barbecue beef ribs or pork stuffed with prosciutto and mozzarella cheese.

Clay Station Petite Sirah
There is nothing petite about Petite Sirah. It has traditionally been used in blends to make red wines bigger and more assertive. Our 2002 Petite Sirah was fermented warm and handled gently throughout the winemaking process, maximizing color and flavor extraction. 70% was barrel aged 12 months in both new and older American and French oak. The remainder was cellared in stainless steel to better preserve the delicate and fresh blueberry fruit character so typical of the variety. This is a big, full-bodied and peppery red wine with intense blueberry character mingling with notes of ripe blackberry, dark chocolate and hints of toast and vanilla. With soft tannins and a plush frame, this wine remains rich, powerful and lushly concentrated. It is a robust wine perfect for barbecue, chicken cacciatore or spinach ravioli in a meaty red tomato sauce.

The addition of Petite Sirah and Cabernet created additional depth and complexity, while a touch of Malbec enhanced the smooth character of this bold wine. This Shiraz is a big, full-bodied red wine with aromas of plum, spice and hints of violet.
