Maréchal Foch VQA
Like the other hybridizers of his day, Kuhlmann created new varieties by crossing native American vines with European vines in a search for productive and disease-resistant varieties. Georges Masson, an The comparison to Burgundy, which is made with Pinot Noir, may be have been inspired by the vaguely similar earth aromas and smoky note in the finish of a Maréchal Foch wine.
Other flavours include plums and spice. Masson thought the wine aged well. It depends on the style: most are made to be enjoyed when released with only a rare one crafted for long-term cellaring. St. Hubertus winemaker Cherie Jones advises drinking it by its fifth birthday.

Optima
When grown primarily on cool sites in British Columbia, Optima achieves better balance, one reason why awarding winning dessert wines have been made by several wineries. Both Quails' Gate and Domaine de Chaberton have had the good fortune in some vintages to have botrytis and so-called noble rot among their Optima Grapes. This contributes honey and tobacco flavours, adding richness to the aroma and taste of the wines.

Ortega VQA
This German-developed grape is a cross of Müller-Thurgau and Siegerrebe. It major advantage is its ability to mature readily to adequate to high sugar levels early and in less than ideal growing conditions. For this reason, the variety has become a staple to wineries on Vancouver Island an in the most northerly extensions of the Okanagan Valley. The somewhat exotic flavours of the wine -- Muscat and apricots -- make it both a good apéritif and a favourite with Asian foods. Cherry Point's Wayne Ulrich likes it with his wife's home-made bread and peanut butter. "I've had it with Cajun chicken," vintner Loretta Zanatta says, "It takes a lot to wipe out Ortega."

Shuswap Serenade VQA
Blend of Chardonnay, Madeleine Angevine & Madeleine Sylvanner grapes, light oak finish.
VQA - describes this wine as Fruity, Citrus, Apricot, Tropical, Melon, Strawberry, Spicy, Cinnamon, Cloves, Caramel with a fruity, muscat nose.

Siegerrebe
An aromatic wine on its own, the variety also is useful in bolstering the tropical fruit notes in blends. Because the ripe grape is so luscious, the fruit attracts swarms of wasps which suck the juice and leave behind hollow, disease prone bunches of grapes. When a winery succeeds in getting it into a bottle, it is a seductive wine before or after dinner.
