Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery

Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery The history of Sebastiani Vineyards dates back to 1825. In that year, the Franciscan fathers of nearby mission San Francisco Solano, assisted by local native Americans, first cleared and planted land for their vineyards. These vineyards are among the oldest vineyard sites in northern California. They were acquired in 1904 by Samuele Sebastiani, the founder of our family winery, who immigrated from the wine producing region of Tuscany, Italy in 1895. Samuele's story is an interesting one. When he first arrived in California, like most immigrants of the time, he literally had nothing but the clothes on his back. He began working at odd jobs and finally saved enough money to purchase a horse and wagon, which he used to haul cobblestones from a quarry in the hill behind Sonoma. The stones were used to help pave the streets of San Francisco. By 1904, with the money he saved from this enterprise he was able to buy land, our original stone winery, and grow grapes. He began making fine Sonoma Valley wine, a craft he learned before immigrating to America. Shortly after Samuele's death in 1944, his son August Sebastiani and August's wife Sylvia purchased the winery from his father's estate. August increased the winery's production a hundredfold. He was able to do this with creative ideas such as putting premium varietal wines in popularly priced magnums. He introduced "Noveau" Gamay Beaujolais to America, and he created a blush wine knows as Pinot Noir Blanc, which he called "Eye of the Swan". The color of this wine reminded him of the pinkish color of the eyes of his Australian black swans. All of these endeavors proved to be very successful. August soon gained a reputation as one of America's most skilled and innovative winemakers. Sylvia Sebastiani stood tribute to the legend of her wine-pioneering husband August. Sylvia was involved in the winery and its hospitality and tasting room facilities. She often visited the tasting room to sign copies of her world famous cookbook, Mangiamo! Let's Eat. The third generation of the famous wine making family has taken on the leadership role with Mary Ann Sebastiani Cuneo, President and Chief Executive Officer. The daughter of August and Sylvia Sebastiani, Mary Ann guides the company in its renaissance and emphasis on becoming the leader among Sonoma Valley's quality wineries. Mary Ann officially joined the winery in 1980, managing all winery property, real estate dealings and the hospitality department. Today, Mary Ann's attention is focused on the ambitious two-year project to renovate and retrofit the original winery building, which was built in 1903. Mary Ann continues the management of the company's real estate holdings. She has also been actively involved in Boy Scouts of America and Sonoma Valley Hospital.

  Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
The two previous vintages of this wine have been darlings of the media and press and are in very high demand from consumers across the nation. We expect nothing less from this vintage! Our 2002 offering has gobs of blackberry fruit with mocha and chocolate aromas keeping in the style of its great 2001 predecessor. Thanks to tannin management and the artful blending of Merlot, this wine offers early drinkability, elegance and perfumy aromatics while maintaining a firm backbone for ageability. It is a decadent California Cabernet, which can be enjoyed with marbled aged beef, lamb and mild cheeses.
  Cherryblock Cabernet Sauvignon
This wine has a very dark red crimson color. The wine has jammy, blackberry aromas enhanced by truffle, toasted oak and delicate tones of cassis. The flavor has very concentrated blackberry and black cherry fruit with a slight dusty, wood flavor... all creating an opulent style with balance and elegance. The finish has ripe, mouth-coating tannins and lingering berry flavors.
  Sebastiani Alexander Valley Merlot
Dark crimson in color, this wine reflects its terroir beautifully. The aroma displays all the characteristic scents of the Alexander Valley: black cherry and cranberry fruit with touches of aromatic black tea. The French oak enhances the aromatics with classic mocha, maple syrup and “cigar box” notes. This wine is very elegant in style with lots of finesse. This wine challenges those who feel California cannot make a classically-styled, Bordeaux-esque Merlot. Enjoy with Lamb or grilled hamburgers and sausages.
  Sebastiani Carneros Pinot Noir
The Carneros Pinot Noir has a dark ruby red color. The nose is laden with the unmistakable aromas of strawberry and cherry, enhanced with sandalwood nuances. This medium-bodied wine has concentrated flavors of cherry fruit, framed nicely by oak tannins. This vintage of Pinot will definitely become more lush with time, but can be pleasantly enjoyed now with Salmon or Duck.
Sebastiani Dolcino Rosso Red Table Wine
Dolcino Rosso means "little sweet red" in Italian. This wine has a deep, purple-edged color with a floral, spicy, slightly candied nose. The mouthfeel has rich sweet, lush cherry flavors with a smooth licorice finish. A wonderful picnic wine with blue-veined cheeses.
  Sebastiani Dutton Ranch Chardonnay
Medium gold in color, this wine has lovely aromas of toast, butter, marzipan, peaches and pears. In the mouth, it flaunts flavors of Golden Delicious apple and Meyer lemon. The wine’s body is medium to full with silky elegance and roundness. It is a richer, more supple wine than previous vintages and excellent with clam chowder and fettuccini alfredo.
  Sebastiani Eye of the Swan
Loyal fans of Eye of the Swan through the years just can`t get enough of this wine. What started out as sentimental wine is turning into a house favorite! So named because the color of this wine reminded August Sebastiani of the black swan`s eye, this wine was first produced back in the mid-70`s. The unmistakable pink/coppery color of this wine is outstanding. The nose is filled with cherry aromas with touches of bread or yeast. This medium-bodied wine is very crisp with just a hint of sweetness. It is a classic, Blanc de Noir style wine to be enjoyed in its youth. It adapts to a wide variety of foods, but is best paired with Thai and Asian foods. Serve slightly chilled.
  Sebastiani Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast
This wine has a beautiful dark garnet color thanks to a great vintage! The nose is filled with Maraschino cherry and strawberry jam aromatics and hints of toasty oak and classic oriental spice. Concentrated Bing cherry and strawberry compote flavors are present in the mouth. It finishes with lively acidity and soft tannins. This wine is softer, rounder and riper in style than the previous vintage; it is stylistically much like the famed 2001 vintage. Although approachable now, due to the voluptuous warm vintage characteristics, you will be rewarded with even more aromatics and softness if you can allow it to age a year or so.
  Sebastiani Port Adagio
With aromas of dark chocolate, mocha and dried cherries and hints of rose petal, this Port is a real treat! Dark chocolate flavor bursts all over the palate, followed by nuances of caramel, dried cranberries and cherries. The fruit and tannins are balanced, and you can’t help but enjoy the ripe raspberry fruit that lingers on the finish.
  Sebastiani Secolo
Dark crimson in color, this wine is famed for its aromatics. Your nose will bask in the black cherry, black tea and toasty oak aromas. The flavors echo the nose with forward, lush fruit and a touch of smoke, dried herbs and terroir/soil on the soft finish. The wine is supple and elegant and a beautiful match for Kobe beef skewers and pot roast. Taste the soul of Sonoma in Secolo!
  Sebastiani Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon
With a dark garnet color, this wine opens with Bing cherry and blackberry aromas, laced with subdued oak. Black cherry fruit and leafy, tea-like flavors gush over the palate. Less tannic, this elegant Cabernet has a beautiful softness on the finish. This wine pairs nicely with steaks and sharp cheeses.
  Sebastiani Sonoma County Chardonnay
This light gold Chardonnay has pronounced aromas of green apple, lemon/citrus and minerals. Light oak was added to the citrusy fruit to create an ideally balanced wine. The flavor echoes the aromatics with green apple and has hints of vanilla and malt flavors. Each sip invites another, as the finish cleanses your mouth with pleasant lemon/citrus flavors and crisp acidity.
  Sebastiani Sonoma County Merlot
With its dark crimson red color, the 2001 Sonoma County Merlot boasts blueberry and black cherry fruit aromas mixed with the flavors of black tea and toasted oak. Your mouth will delight in the black cherry and vanilla flavors. The finish is soft and supple. Stylistically, it is a riper, fuller-bodied Merlot due to the vintage conditions.
  Smoking Loon Syrah
  Sonoma County Chardonnay
The Chardonnay is uncommonly food-friendly in style due to its partial Malo-Lactic fermentation and a delicate oak combination. Enjoy this wine with lobster bisque or crab cakes.
  Sonoma County Zinfandel
This wine displays a deep, dark garnet color. The aroma fills your nose with raspberry and boysenberry compote, followed by shades of vanilla and brown sugar. Lush raspberry fruit and jammy boysenberry flavors will coat your tongue in the mouth. The finish is soft, not tannic and alcoholic like many Zins these days, with lingering berry-like flavors, toasted oak nuances and herbs de Provence spice. Enjoy this wine with an array of Italian foods, classic American barbecue and/or hamburgers.
  Sonoma Valley Barbera
The color of this wine hints at its richness. Unlike the stark magenta color of most Piedmont Barberas, this wine is very dark purple. Aromas of anise and raspberries topped off with vanilla and smoke fill the nose and are echoed in the mouth with lingering plumb fruit compote. We haven’t tasted anything like this since the legendary 1976 vintage! It is lush yet maintains a nice level of acidity, which makes this wine perfect for food pairing. Due to its low-tannin nature, it can be paired with most fish entrees, but its ideal match is Osso Buco. Enjoy also with any tomato-based stews and pizza.
