Trespass Vineyards

Trespass Vineyards Trespass Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Napa Valley Cabernet Franc are the result of a dedicated collaboration between a husband and wife, a renowned wine maker and one small winery with vineyards that are situated at the base of Spring Mountain in the Saint Helena District (AVA). Part of a select group of boutique California wineries, with only five acres of wine grapes that are divided between Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, our vineyard has become a true labor of love, with virtually every aspect of vineyard management and wine making being done by hand. This dedication has allowed us to handcraft wines that reflect the unique character and intensity of the terrior that has garnered critical acclaim for our neighboring vineyards. The vineyard is located just off Madrona Avenue on the Northwest side of St. Helena. Beginning with the 2003 vintage, the winemaking duties were taken over by renowned winemaker Nils Venge and his son Kirk. We feel very fortunate to be working with such knowledgeable, experienced and just darn nice guys!!! Kirk oversees the day-to-day winemaking at their lovely restored 1891 ghost winery, just outside of St. Helena. Kirk, along with Nils are involved in every aspect of the winemaking process, from checking on Donny's work in the vineyard, to our ever enjoyable blending sessions, taking care of the wines while they are quietly in the cave and finally bottling the wines to share with you.

  Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon is overall a wine with a big structure, showing its youthful tannin structure and noteworthy acid balance. Bright red raspberry, cherry vanilla and currant fruit immediately shoots to the nose of this wine. It is further backed by hints of light milk chocolate, which is very distinctive of its terrior. On the palate there is very bright red fruit flavors and most predominately a flood of ripe cherry juice... Almost candy like in nature. This is one very elegant and fruit driven Cabernet that will improve and last well into the next decade.
  Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon is only the fourth vintage from our 4-acre St. Helena vineyard, but the fruit was just incredible! The wine has a dark, opaque red color with deep, rich, ripe aromas of dark plum and cassis with hints of smoke, violets, anise and dark earth. The flavors on the palate are concen-trated dark raspberry, blackberry and red plums along with molasses and chocolate. This is a wine with many layers that finishes with firm, but balanced tannins.
  Trespass Cabernet Franc
The 2004 Trespass Cabernet Franc, like the ’03 Franc before it, there is not a trace of the typical green character that tarnishes so many Cab Francs. Beneath its heroic purple / black cloak is a hedonistic black cherry aroma spiced with a small dusting of cinnamon stick, clove and barrel vanillin. It is very blissful. Chocolate dipped red cherries and plum fruit rule the entry on the palate. The ripe fruit is backed by masculine but balanced tannins that surround the entirety of the mouth finishing like a fine Bordeaux.
  Trespass Cabernet Franc
The 2003 Trespass Cabernet Franc is a diamond in the ruff. Unlike many of its peers, there is not a trace of vegginess of any kind. Spellbindingly dark, this Franc begins with the warmth of toasted oak, black cherry-vanilla, slight hints of dried currants and plum. The slightly dusty tannins surround thick layers of ripe red fruit with great success on the palate. The cherry core of this wine includes with it a long, delicate finish. The flavors are very mature and complex, reminiscent of old vines, even from this young vineyard. Expect this wine to improve for 3 to 5 years and survive well to 8 to 12 years.
