Cove Point Winery
|
|
Cove Point Winery is a small micro-winery located in Southern Maryland's Calvert County town of Lusby. The winery is located ~6 miles north of Solomons Island and just a short distance from Cove Point Lighthouse -Maryland's oldest operational lighthouse. Cove Point Winery is the first licensed and bonded Class 4 Winery in Southern Maryland - Calvert County. As such, we obtain grapes and juice from local growers here in Southern Maryland, as well as from other sources. Our current vineyard (Cove Point Vineyards) is a small ~1 acre experimental vineyard with plantings of Cayuga White, Chardonnel, Cabernet Franc, Chambourcin, Merlot, NY73 (yet to be named), Vidal, Seyval, Foch, as well as other varieties of Neptune, Niagara, and Catawba. We currently expanding our existing plantings as well as adding 20 Blaufrankisch and 50 Symphony vines, the rest (Symphony) are still interned at Double A Vineyards that will be planted in 2006. We are members of the Maryland Winery Association, the Maryland Grape Growers Association, Calvert County Chamber of Commerce, and Wine America. Our goals are to produce a variety of fantastic wines that the non-wine drinker would enjoy, as well as impress the connoisseur.
