Sunset Cellars
|
|
"Zen Zin" reflects Sunset Cellars' minimalist winemaking style and respect for our grower's efforts in the vineyards. Our winemaking objective is to express and refine the flavors and characteristics created in the vineyard. All grapes are hand-sorted before crushing. Wines are fermented in half-ton containers and punched down by hand. Racking, done when necessary, is as gentle as possible, and aging features the restrained use of new oak, to enhance the grapes' flavors and not overpower them. Our goal is to develop supple wines with ample fruit that celebrate the distinguishing characteristics produced in different regions and vineyards. We are commited to offering wines of quality and value. To this end, we have focused our efforts on discovering and maintaining grape sources which can support this premise. Sunset Cellars emphasizes Zinfandel and other varieties traditionally planted with it, such as Petite Sirah and Carignane, as well as Barbera. We also offer a wonderful Syrah and Pinot Gris.

Dry Creek Valley Petite Sirah
This is a remarkably elegant and supple wine that offers lush, concentrated blackberry and red stone fruit flavors with briary spice overtones and hints of vanilla and chocolate on the nose. It has a long, sustained and moderately tannic finish.
|
Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel
The 2002 vintage yielded a classic full-bodied Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. This wine has intense violet and berry fruit aromas, deep and lush layers of raspberry and spice with earthy, peppery undercurrents and a long, fruity and subtly tannic finish. Delicious now, this is a rich and very elegant wine that will benefit from additional time in the bottle.
|
McFadden Farm Pinot Gris
True to its Alsatian origins, this is a medium-bodied wine with delicate citrus, apricot, and tropical fruit aromas leading to similar flavors with a hint of melon. The crisp, refreshing finish makes a great wine to sip by itself or with meals.
|
Mendocino Red Wine
This combination of Potter Valley Zinfandel and Redwood Valley Petite Sirah displays bright cherry and strawberry aromas which lead to jammy blackberry and cranberry flavors with hints of spice and dark stone fruit. The Zinfandel adds bright berry fruit and a crisp mouthfeel, while the Petite Sirah contributes to the wine's depth and richness. The wine was made entirely from organically grown grapes.

Suisun Valley Zinfandel
The wine opens with bright berry and cherry aromas with a touch of spice. Its raspberry and blackberry flavors, soft tannins and firm acidity make it a pleasure to drink now, though hints of vanilla and pepper suggest it will reward aging over the next few years. A long, crisp finish adds a hint of plum. We've paired it with meat, chicken and vegetarian dishes, and even with strong-flavored fish like salmon...all in the interest of continuing research and quality control, of course.

Twilight Ridge Syrah
Aromas of violets and spice lead to rich blackberry and dark cherry fruit with hints of chocolate and pepper. This is a supple and aromatic wine balancing soft tannins, ripe fruit, and moderate alcohol.
|
Twin Creeks Vineyard Barbera
The wine balances ripe, concentrated fruit and a supple texture with the firm acidity characteristic of Barbera. Inviting dark cherry, blackberry and coffee aromas lead to rich, mouth-filling plum, berry and black cherry flavors with hints of spice, and a touch of almond and chocolate. The balance and acidity make it a versatile wine for a wide range of foods.
