Sugar Creek Winery & Vineyards

Sugar Creek Winery & Vineyards A dream fostered out of the love of wine and family wine-making tradition became a reality with the founding of Sugar Creek Winery & Vineyards by its proprietors Ken & Becky Miller in August of 1994. Travel scenic highway 94, also called the Missouri Weinstrasse (wine road), and the first stop you find is Sugar Creek Winery. This area, one of the oldest settlements west of the Mississippi, including the winery grounds, was part of the original land grant given to the frontiersman Daniel Boone to settle the area. Follow the highway and you'll be directed to turn up a hillside road. When reaching the top you will be rewarded by a wonderful view that takes in the Missouri River and its bluffs to the east and estate grown grapes to the west. Proprietors Ken & Becky, challenge wine enthusiasts, hikers and cyclists to "take to the hill" and sample their fine wines.

Directions
Take Hwy 40-61 and turn south onto Hwy 94. Travel just 12 miles along the scenic Lewis & Clark Trail in the Missouri River Valley,. Just after leaving Defiance watch for our sign, and then the driveway up to our winery on your right leading up a lofty hillside above the Katy Trail, overlooking the Missouri River Valley.

Norton Wine Review: A much publicized location, conveniently located by a short drive out of St. Charles (St. Louis), that is more hype than winery. With only the first tasting pour at SCW we wanted to get the heck out of Defiance since it was obvious what trap we had driven into. If one wants to dash out of town after work for an evening "quickie" drink before the sun goes down, this is your place, but if you wish to sit down and enjoy the setting with a five star wine, drive another 3.6 miles to Chandler Hill's Winery or only three minutes from Sugar Creek for a wonderful setting with a fine Norton at Montelle's Vineyard.
