Mesa Winds Farm & Winery

Mesa Winds Farm & Winery Mesa Winds Farm & Winery is pleased to be located in the West Elks American Viticultural Area. Our wines express the true nature of the area’s terroir as we only use the Certified Organic grapes grown on our farm. The soils on our farm are clay loam with limestone gravel and caliche base, similar to soil composition in Burgundy. Our vineyard altitude is 5800-5700' on a southern slope so vines ripen in hot sun and cool nights. This gives the grapes the right balance of sweetness and acid. We allow our grapes to express the unique character of place in the wines we produce. We also raise Babydoll Southdown sheep to graze our orchards and vineyards and we offer farm stays during the spring and summer season. Visit our website for more information.

  100% Oak Barrel Fermented Chardonnay
An elegant, smooth style of citrus flavors and tropical fruit. Toasty oak from the barrel fermentation adds complexity to the pear and apple underpinnings. Crisp, lively acidity complements the rich flavors to keep it in balance.
Oak Barrel Selection California Cabernet Sauvignon
Ripe flavors of blackberry, blackcurrant and cassis explode on the palate. The texture is velvety and juicy with a nice, lingering finish. Ready to be enjoyed without further bottle aging.
  Oak Barrel Selection California Merlot
Big, rich, berry, cherry and plum flavors deliver a mouthful of Merlot fruit. A touch of oak adds complexity. The finish is soft, with well integrated tannins providing depth and structure.
  Oak Barrel Selection California Sangiovese
A captivating nose of cherry and vanilla suggests a full range of earthy fruits to come: blackberry, raspberry and a touch of spice. The wine is fleshier than previous vintages without sacrificing drinkability.
  Oak Barrel Selection California Shiraz
Appealing, dark fruit aroma leads to generous flavors of black cherry, plum and spice. The wine has a supple texture with refined tannins. The character shows all the way through the lingering finish.
  Oak Barrel Selection Pinot Grigio
Tart, lemony aromas, pineapple and lime flavors, dry crisp and clean with hints of hazelnut.

I have never had a variety I didn't like. Can't find it in the stores anymore. Where can I buy?

A friend brought us a bottle of 2000 Forest Glen Shiraz for Thanksgiving 2009. It was better than most of the $25 wines we have been drinking. The flavors of fruit and cherry were balanced with smoke and leather and toast and oak. It was complex and sumptuous and smooth and rich. Just found a store in Minneapolis and bought 6 more bottles for $9.99 each. What a deal!!! Also recommending Veramonte Primus at twice the price. I am also looking forward to trying the Forest Glen Chardonnay and Cabernet.

Had the Chardonnay reserve 2004 and it was fantastic, the oddest thing is I don't think there is an actually winery. I have been searching and it's very difficult to find!!! Oh, the taste..YUMMIE!

Found the 2005 Reserve Merlot, at one of the Resale places. Perhaps it had been exposed to adverse temperature conditions,...but if it had, then I'de still kill for a bottle of it at $6.99 each ! ! Too,...if you haven't tried their Cabernet,....then dive in,...as the large bottles had been for sale for about 14 bucks each at our Fred-Meyer stores here in the Northwest and then it all vanished after 2004 I believe. If you won't kill for a bottle of the Forest Glen Merlot,...you will for the non-or-reserve Cabernet, as the start middle and finish are certainly testiment to their Oak Aging, as little or simply nothing compares for the price,...little or nothing I might add again ! Just celebrated my ladies being Cancer free with a bottle of 2000 Merlot it aged to perfection. It's hard to come by in Minnesota. But the Merlot is one of if not thee best we've ever tasted.

Forest Glen Chardonnay has become our very favorite, but we, too, have a hard time finding it in stores. We live in SC and would love to find it in Rock Hill wihtout having to drive to Charlotte, NC!
