Handley Cellars
|
|
Handley Cellars is a small (about 14,000 cases per year) family-owned winery in California's Mendocino County, bonded in 1982. We are located at the northwest end of the Anderson Valley on 59 acres of the original Holmes Ranch. Still standing on the property are the now-refurbished ranch house, barn, and the original water tower. At Handley Cellars we offer a wide variety of wines that complement today's diverse cuisine with its worldwide influences. Handley's winemaker Milla Handley seeks to make balanced wines that possess distinctive varietal characteristics, wines that reflect the soil and climate in which they were grown.

Pinot Rosé, Anderson Valley
A wine lush with the essence of strawberries and raspberries, in the nose and on the palate. Rich fruit flavors are balanced by bright acidity, due in part to the sparkling wine taille (juice from the sparkling wine press). A wonderful wine to serve with spicy foods from the world over: Indian curries, Thai noodle dishes, and good old-fashioned American barbecued ribs.

|
Sauvignon Blanc, Dry Creek Valley
The crisp fruit flavors and aromas of this Sauvignon Blanc are a result of careful winemaking. Part of the blend was fermented and aged five months in French oak (10% new); the remaining portion was fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. Barrel fermentation delivers a round texture to the wine, and tank fermentation emphasizes its fruit and mineral qualities. Subtly complex, Handley's Dry Creek Sauvignon Blanc offers rich aromas of melon and mango, accented with grapefruit, lime, and a hint of jasmine. Clean flavors of gooseberry and citrus on the palate make it a food-pairing champion.

Zinfandel, Redwood Valley
The fruit for this wine came from three different Redwood Valley vineyards. Redwood Valley is an inland appellation where summers are hot and dry: the perfect climate for Zinfandel. The grapes came from head-pruned vines, which produce fruit of exceptional quality and flavor. This well-structured Zinfandel has a complex nose, with mild overtones of chocolate, vanilla, and raspberry, followed by cocoa and cherry on the palate. Lovely silky texture.
Silver: San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, Dallas Morning News Wine Competition, Sonoma Marin County Fair.
