Deer Springs Winery
|
|
Deer Springs Winery is family owned and operated. The land and buildings are part of the family homestead, in which the homestead certification was signed to ancestor Patrick O’Halloran on August 15, 1874. The original deed was signed by President Ulysses S. Grant, and is on display in the winery. The creation and development of Deer Springs Winery has been a vision and labor of love by family members and owners Jim and Barbara Partington, son-in-law and daughter Jon and Jennifer Reeder and daughter Kathleen Hennagir. A retired US Navy Rear Admiral and fighter pilot, Jim and wife Barbara decided to return to Jim’s hometown of Lincoln when he retired from the Navy. Jim was interested in preserving the history of the farm and in planting alternative crops, which led to his decision to plant grapes. When Jennifer began to make wine from the grapes, that turned out to be excellent, the decision was made to move forward with renovating the farm buildings and farmhouse to make these unique wines available to others. The decision to create Deer Springs Winery was made, and remodeling began in 2006.
