Heritage
The 2001 vintage was marked by extremes. Spring rains caused some problems during bloom, but heat in July, August, and September caused rapid ripening of Chambourcin clusters. This supplied sufficient sugars for alcohols slightly above normal. After 13 months in American oak, the best barrels were assembled for the Heritage blend. The resulting wine has aromas of smoky oak and spice with red currant and cherry. On the palate, there is raspberry and cherry backed by good acidity and enough tannin to cellar a few years. The finish lingers with spice and oak. Optimal drinking will be 2005 - 2007.
