Alexander Valley Vineyards
|
|
Welcome to our family-owned wine estate, once the original homestead of Cyrus Alexander, the namesake of this prominent viticultural appellation, Alexander Valley. We purchased the land from the Alexander's heirs in 1962, planted vineyards, and in 1975 built our winery. Here we grow grapes and produce delicious wines that compliment food and enrich your dining experience. Alexander Valley Vineyards is located on Highway 128 in northern Sonoma County, just 75 miles north of San Francisco, 6 miles from the sleepy town of Healdsburg and 16 miles from Calistoga in the Napa Valley. Visit our historic property, taste our award-winning wines, bring a picnic and enjoy beautiful vistas of our peaceful, rural valley. Our winery tasting room is open daily, 10:00am to 5:00pm.

2001 Pinot Noir
Bright ruby color. Blackberries and wild strawberries are the dominant aromas along with faint aromas of clove, cocoa, and vanilla. On the palate, flavors of fresh plum and black cherry are framed with a supple mouthfeel and light tannins. The abundance of fruit is balanced by the pleasant French oak influence. The combination of soft tannins and intense fruit provides a finished mouth-feel that is delicate and velvety. Serve with roasted leg of lamb or pork tenderloin with cherry sauce. Cellar Life: 5-7 years. Numerous Gold Medal Winner!

2002 Estate Cabernet Franc
Deep ruby red with a youthful purple hue. Initially, there is a lifted cedary, toasty character, which is followed by a core of fruits. These include abundant blueberries, boysenberries and dark plums. Slight hints of varietal earthiness and black olives provide additional complexity to this already intensely aromatic wine. A medium bodied wine, with a lovely rich texture of cherries, chocolate and mocha flavor. Complimenting the above is an integrated oak treatment providing nuances of toast, vanillin and nutmeg. The finish is appealingly long and elegant with approachable tannins.
|
2002 Wine Club Blend
50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is based on the winning blend created by Wine Club Members at the 2003 Wine Club Spring Bash. The color is dark garnet with a purple tinge. Initial aromas of plum and cassis lead into notes of eucalyptus and cedar. The wine enters with flavors of black cherry and blackberry. Slight hints of varietal earthiness and black olives provide additional complexity to this already intensely aromatic wine. The finish is appeallingly long and elegant with approachable tannins.

Cabernet Sauvignon
Our benchmark wine just got three stars from The Press Democrat which calls it "a juicy Cab with a round texture." Aromas of black cherries, cassis, plum & cedar dominate the nose, along with a hint of anise. The fruit from each Wetzel Estate Vineyard was vinified and treated differently.
The Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc grapes for this blend were picked at the peak of ripeness and have excellent natural acidity. Medium to full-bodied, this Cabernet displays abundant cherry and currant fruit on the palate and a velvety mouth feel. Supple and polished throughout, it finishes with firm tannins. As with previous vintages, this wine is drinkable now yet will age for 10-15 years.
|
Chardonnay
This bright flavorful wine was produced from six individual blocks of Chardonnay. Stainless Steel and barrel fermentation with multiple yeast strains, French oak barrel aging on the yeast lees, and partial secondary or malolactic fermentation all combine to present a flavorful and complex wine. Aromas of mandarin orange, pineapple and a hint of lemon combine with rich apple and pear flavors. The wine finishes with great flavor and length.

Estate Pinot Noir
Long, warm summer days and cool evenings during grape maturation along with low yields in our vineyards situated on the Alexander Valley Vineyards property right on the Russian River has unquestionably produced a Pinot Noir which is abundant in the classic Pinot aromas and flavors. Cold soaking, two pump overs a day during fermentation, plus the use of the two different yeast strains enhanced the aroma and flavor. Gold Medal - 2004 San Diego Wine Competition. Gold Medal - 2004 Sonoma County Harvest Fair

Schoolhouse Top of the Crop Rhone Blend
The premier offering in our new Top of the Crop program is a very limited production wine that showcases the lush fruit of the Rhone varietals we grow on our estate. There's a lot of texture and purity in this bottle. The wine, produced from very low-yielding vineyards, is a third Grenache and a third Cinsault, which contribute silkiness and a bit of earthiness. There's also a generous amount of Mourvedre here for depth and a bit of Syrah for structure.
|
SinZin
Varietally distinct, this Zinfandel captures the true essence of Alexander Valley. The fruit is sourced from a variety of vineyards with differing microclimates. This provides winemaker Kevin Hall with an array of unique parcels of fruit. Once vinified, these parcels are blended together and then allowed to mature in French and American oak for 10 months.
|
Syrah
Rich, ripe and smooth, the 2003 Wetzel Estate Syrah is prime example of the excellence of both the region for growing magnificant Syrah and Kevin Hall's skills in producing powerful but balanced wines.
|
Temptation Zin
Temptation Zinfandel was born out of our twenty-five plus years making Sin Zin Zinfandel. First produced in 1978, with 100% Alexander Valley grapes, Sin Zin has developed a cult like following for its abundant raspberry fruit and freshly crushed black pepper character. In 2001 we launched Redemption Zinfandel, a 100% Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel that displays rich blackberry, blueberry and spice rack qualities that is a terrific counterpoint to Sin Zin. And yet, something was amiss… Sin leads to Redemption, and yet what leads to Sin? Temptation Zin was born.
