Flora Springs Winery & Vineyards
|
|
Flora Springs is a family endeavor that epitomizes hard work, dedication and teamwork . The vitality of our family is obvious as we set about the task of growing great grapes and making absolutely delicious wine. Even the name Flora Springs has significance - Flora is our mother and the springs refer to the water source on the property that has flowed uninterrupted regardless of periods of drought.

25th Anniversary Celebration Cabernet Sauvignon
The wine exhibits smokiness from the heavily toasted barrels and has characteristics of black cherry, cassis, black currants and cocoa. The grapes are from the Rutherford hillside planting of vines and the wine has the soft tannins and flavors of sweet fruit for which Flora Springs is known. Bottled only in magnums, this wine is truly a celebration of the last 25 years.

Flora Springs Barrel Fermented Chardonnay
The Barrel Fermented Chardonnay boasts flavors of peach and pear on the palate, with just a hint of pineapple. The wine is creamy with a full, luscious mouthfeel. I do not allow this wine to go through malolactic fermentation because of the considerable richness that is inherent in our fruit. The result is a balanced and delicious wine.
|
Flora Springs Holy Smoke Cabernet Sauvignon
The dark color of this wine is the first thing you notice as you pour it into the glass. This wine comes from the youngest vineyard of all of our Single-vineyard Cabernets and it shows an attractive youthfulness not found in the other wines. The fruit boasts cherry and berry characteristics with big, clean Syrah-like flavors. The tannins are soft and fully integrated into the wine and the finish is supple and friendly, with a delightful hint of oak.
|
Flora Springs Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Aged for almost two years in French, American and Eastern European oak, this wine exhibits all the classic characteristics of a Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley - full, forward, mouthfilling black cherry fruit with cassis and cocoa. The finish is smooth and lingering - a nicely balanced wine with oak undertones.

Flora Springs Napa Valley Merlot
For our 2006 Napa Valley Merlot, grapes from three of our vineyards in three distinct areas of the Valley were used. Each vineyard, under the management of Proprietor/Vineyard Director Pat Garvey, is farmed using sustainable and organic practices. And due to their endless diversity of soil types, exposures, and elevations, each adds its own individuality and personality to the blend. The Komes Ranch grapes add intensity and structure, those from Oakville fill in with bouquet and flavors of raspberries and red fruits and those from Pope Valley contribute deep color and supple tannins. Winemaker Paul Steinauer explains, “in 2006, our vineyard team worked hard with the Merlot to get an even more concentrated character from the grapes. Aggressive crop thinning rewarded us with wines exhibiting an even deeper color and full midpalate.”
|
Flora Springs Out Of Sight Cabernet Sauvignon
This second vintage of the Out-of-Sight Cabernet has extremely ripe, plummy fruit, making it rich and full in the mouth. The violet, floral aromas are followed by flavors of cocoa, coffee and just a hint of pepper to make it interesting. The tannins are apparent in this wine, helping push the ripe fruit through to the finish, which is soft and supple.

Flora Springs Pinot Grigio
Pinot Grigio differs from other white varietals in that its skin is dark (hence the name Gris in France). The grapes must be pressed immediately upon arrival at the winery - quickly and gently - to avoid extracting any color or bitterness. The juice is then cold fermented in stainless tanks and bottled shortly after fermentation is completed to preserve the freshness and unique character of the wine. The brightness of citrus is complemented by a dash of tropical fruit flavors to yield a wine of pure delight. Serve chilled and enjoy!
|
Flora Springs Poggio del Papa
A blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet and Merlot, this wine exhibits a purple, ruby color and enticing flavors of black plums, cherries and toasty oak. The delicious bright fruit flavors of Sangiovese are bolstered by the addition of Cabernet and Merlot, giving this wine a full body and a firm tannin structure.
|
Flora Springs Rutherford Hillside Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Rutherford Hillside Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is always among our most elegant cabernets and shows great consistency from vintage to vintage. It has truly become a family favorite and one we always look forward to enjoying both young, for its fruit and minerality, as well as with some age to appreciate its complexity and nuances. The concentration of the 2005 Rutherford Hillside Reserve is a bit tighter and exhibits more complex tannin structure than its 2004 sibling while continuing to express the deep sense of terroir so long associated with this wine.

Flora Springs Select Cuvee Chardonnay
The "Select Cuvee" Chardonnay has an appealing nose of fruit and oak - the oak comes from 60% new Burgundian barrels in which the Chardonnay was aged for 10 months. The forward fruit on the palate boasts of pear, which flows nicely onto tropical fruit flavors on the finish. These tropical fruit flavors are representative of Carneros - pineapple, mango and peach, which balances nicely with the oak, creating a surprising freshness and crispness to the complex structure of the wine. The finish goes on and on - great length and great depth in a great wine.

Flora Springs Soliloquy
Our Crossroads Vineyard in the heart of Oakville appellation is a crown jewel in our collection of Napa Valley vineyards. Though Crossroads is planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, two blocks of the vineyard are devoted to a varietal we absolutely cherish - Sauvignon Blanc. This is the fruit source for our very unique Soliloquy Sauvignon Blanc. From two different clones we have created one wine of singular distinction. Soliloquy - 100% Oakville Sauvignon Blanc.

Flora Springs Trilogy
Flora Springs has built its legacy on beautiful and complex wines that can be enjoyed either as young and vibrant or as cellared and graceful. The 2005 Trilogy may be our boldest statement yet. It exhibits all the classic Trilogy attributes with a lovely cassis and cherry bouquet as well as huge black fruit flavors that envelope the palate. Each varietal is vital to the outcome - the Cabernet exhibits black cherry and dark cocoa character, while the Merlot carries these flavors to the back of the palate where the Cabernet Franc adds notes of coffee and toffee to the finish. Unrelenting with power and grace, the 2005 Trilogy is the perfect wine to mark Flora Springs’ 30th anniversary year.
|
Flora Springs Wild Boar Cabernet Sauvignon
Most critics agree that this wine, with its ripe black fruit and licorice characteristics and tamed tannin flavors, is among the best produced from the area. This robust, highly concentrated Cabernet has earned its name . . . Wild Boar
|
Sangiovese
Sangiovese is known throughout wine world for its engaging bouquet and bright acidity that matches with a wide range of culinary preparations. Red fruit accents of cranberry and raspberry are evident on the nose and palate, and complimented by hint of blueberry for added complexity. Paul uses older neutral barrels and a shortened aging regimen so as not to mask the elegance and freshness best exhibited by Sangiovese.
|
Select Cuvee Chardonnay
Our Select Cuvee Chardonnay is made especially our Flora Springs Club members. Our winemaking team painstakingly tastes through each barrel of Chardonnay to select only the finest few for this cuvee. These barrels are then isolated and retasted several more times before the final, and very limited, selection is made.
|
St. Helena Rennie Reserve Cabernet
Both elegant and intense in style, this bright ruby-colored wine exhibits classic Cabernet Sauvignon varietal characteristics of cherry and spice aromas, followed by cassis, vanilla, black cherry and toasty oak. The lingering finish is complimented by soft tannins.
