Directions
From Charlottesville: Take 29 South for about 35 miles. Turn right onto state road 653, also known as Freshwater Cove Lane. Go 1 mile, and the winery sign is in plain view on the left. From Afton: Go south on Hwy 151 before turning left onto Hwy 6. Turn right onto 29 South and continue on for approximately 10 miles. Turn right onto state road 653, also known as Freshwater Cove Lane. Go 1 mile, and the winery sign is in plain view on the left. From Lychburg: Go north on 29 for about 30 miles. Turn left onto 653, also known as Freshwater Cove Lane. Go 1 mile, and the winery sign is in plain view on the left.

Lovingston Cabernet Franc
Displaying a rich, dark garnet color – a testament to our labor-intensive all-night punchdowns – our 2005 Cabernet Franc gives strong aromas of cherries, plums, and other dark red fruits. Very smooth on the palate, the wine’s well-integrated tannins with the balanced varietal character makes it an easy-drinking, food-friendly wine. The fruit maturity at time of harvest prevents our Cab Franc from showing any herbaceous or “green vegetable” characteristics. Aged in 40% first-year, 40% second-year, and 20% third-year French oak, this wine has the potential for extended cellaring.

Lovingston Estate Reserve
Try our St. Emilion-style blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc grown entirely at our Josie's Knoll vineyard. Black pepper, mocha and a distinct cedar nose complement the supple black cherry palate and creamy finish. Held in barrel for one year followed by 13 months in bottle before release, this wine is ready now but will stand the test of time beautifully.

Lovingston Merlot
85 - Wine Enthusiast Magazine Our 100% homegrown varietal Merlot carries a strong toasted cedar wood nose, intermingling with aromas of tobacco and chocolate. This wine packs a punch on the palate with ripe fruit flavors of cherries and currants, particularly if allowed to breathe for an hour after uncorking. A big steak wine. Aging potential of 5-8 years.

Lovingston Petit Manseng
100% Petit Manseng. Just slightly off-dry, the Petit Manseng is back! This year's vintage displays that familiar slightly sweet palate of pineapple and mango puree we've come to love so much. The wine finishes with mouth-watering acidity to balance the upfront fruit. Serves well ice cold as an aperitif and pairs well with salty cheeses or spicy dishes, such as vindaloo.

Lovingston Rotunda Red
Embodying our motto, “We bleed orange and blue, but we drink red,” this wine is a nod to the family's two generations of UVA alums. A blend of 57% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 13% Petit Verdot, this Bordeaux-style blend is loaded with black fruit aromatics that carry forward onto the palate, balancing with the pleasing acidity and tannin. Our most elegant vintage of Rotunda Red yet. Pairs well with grilled dishes.

Lovingston Wahoo White
Named for our love of the University of Virginia – or if you really like the fish – this golden, straw-colored white wine consists of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Petit Manseng. The co-fermented Sauvignon and Chardonnay contribute the mouth-watering acidity and freshness while the Petit Manseng helps to round out the body, enhancing the tropical mango and pineapple nuances. Pairs well with seafood and spicy asian dishes.

Lovingston Winery was an early morning tour of a newly founded vineyard and winery. Some individuals have a personality that makes you want to listen to what they have to offer, and this was Ed Puckett. This Virginia educated charming Georgian took his time with us during his busy schedule to accommodate every question we could throw at him. Obviously a working family’s vineyard and not a horse and pony show attraction. Gravity flow designed winery facilities nestled under the view of their 1906 home site. Though they would sell you wines from the vineyard, Lovingston is in the business of producing wines for local restaurants and vendors; therefore appointments must be made in advance to visit this winery. How many wineries have you gone to that you truly enjoyed every offering? Well, this was the case here. No, not that you wanted to buy every bottle presented, but you enjoyed the opportunity to try the offerings that are not normally your preferences. Six wonderfully crafted “gentle” wines (Wahoo White, Petit Manseng, Cab Franc, two Merlots, and an unusual 80% Chambourcin / 20% Tannat blend ‘Rotunda Red’). We traveled home with Lovingston’s 2007 Cabernet Frank and one of the best East coast Merlots ever tasted in their Reserve 2006 Merlot.
