LA VITA

LA VITA Wine Details
Price: $50.00 per bottle

Description: 1998 LA VITA is produced from a unique blend of 34% Nebbiolo, 34% Refosco and 32% Dolcetto grown in our estate vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This hand-crafted wine was aged for two years in oak barrels and puncheons and then aged for an additional eighteen months in the bottle prior to release. The unusually cool 1998 growing season yielded 8200 bottles. Part of the proceeds from the sale of LA VITA will be contributed to a non-profit organization in Santa Cruz.

Varietal Definition
Dolcetto:
Italian red grape from the Piedmont area of the North West. Produces soft varietal wines for early drinking. Gives lots of up front fruit with soft tannins with a style not unlike the Gamay of Beaujolais.
Nebbiolo:
The red grape of Barolo and Barbaresco from the Piedmont region of Northwest Italy. Named after the word 'nebbia', or fog in Italian, which rises around the hills of Alba, the famous truffle countryside. It is noted for its high acidity and 'mouth puckering' tannins and its distinct bouquet of black cherries, liquorice and leather. A top Barolo will take years to soften but when mature will evolve the vegetal, gamy characteristics for which this Italian classic is famous. The colour on ageing Nebbiolo wines fades rapidly to form a distinctive brownish rim.
Refosco:
Ancient native grape grown in Friuli-Venezia-Giuia region of Italy. Made into what is often considered to be a robust, very intense red wine with moderate complexity that can match the heartiest meal course. According to Pliny the Elder the favorite wine of Livia, second wife of Augustus Caesar, was created from this grape. Limited plantings are also to be found in the cooler coastal regions of California. Some think the Mondeuse of the Savoie region of France is identical.
