Clay Station Viognier

Clay Station Viognier Wine Details
Price: $12.99 per bottle

Description: With a longer than normal growing season in 2003, the vines were allowed to reach their utmost maturity. With average to slightly lower temperatures, the grapes ripened evenly across the growing season with harvest taking place at the perfect moment in order to capture true varietal expression. Our Viognier is fermented solely in stainless steel to allow the true flavors and character of this wine to emerge. This is a robust, aromatic white wine with luscious viscosity and notes of ripe honeysuckle, orange blossom and peach on the nose. This lovely balanced wine exudes ripe apricot and peach flavors that finish with a crisp acidity and lingering finish. The wine is a perfect accompaniment to shellfish, lighter fish dishes and spicy Asian dishes.

Varietal Definition
Viognier:
The most acclaimed white wine grape from France's Rhône Valley, Viognier is a highly aromatic varietal, with a flavor profile that could include peach, apricot, nectarine, lichee, musk and flower blossom. The heady perfume of this varietal is one of its trademarks, although its flavors are sometimes problematic in matching with food. However, it does well with lobster, crab and moderately flavored fish. Use it as an apéritif as an alternative to Chardonnay. The "Rhône Rangers" in California have done an excellent job promoting this varietal.
