Rotberger

Rotberger Wine Details
Price: $14.99 per bottle

Description: Gray Monk’s own vineyard provided the grapes for the Rotberger. Mash from the grapes underwent a 9-day fermentation in stainless steel tanks. To maximize the fruit flavours strict temperature control was employed during the fermentation process. This wine dances in the glass with its dark rose petal hue. The penetrating aroma shows spice, raspberry and currant notes, leading to flavours of spiced cherries and cranberries with linger on the long, lively finish. The ample flavours and full, firm texture herald a wine that is proud to be a true rosé. Serve chilled during al fresco luncheons and picnics with a wide selection of foods including pasta, turkey and pork.

Varietal Definition
Rotberger:
Rotberger is a cross of Trollinger and Riesling grapes. Dr. Heinrich Birk produced the cross at the Geisenheim research institute in 1928. It is used to produce fruity, early maturing light red wines in cool-climate areas. It is often best drunk when young and can be used to produce a rosé or sparkling wine. It has no relationship with the Rotburger variety bearing a nearly similar name which is also known as Zweigelt.
